KO Média acquires Elle Québec and Elle Canada

Canadian publishing brands Elle Québec and Elle Canada are changing hands.

Quebec-based KO Média announced this week that it has acquired the operating licences of the consumer print and digital publications.
 
Previously owned by TVA Publications and most recently Transcontinental, the Canadian Elle family will join publications such as VÉRO, di Stasio, Édition Papier and K pour Katrine, at KO Média. 

The acquisition allows KO Média to expand its reach across Canada with Elle Canada offering Canada-wide advertisers the option for national reach programs.
 
"Elle is deeply rooted in both Quebec and Canadian culture. The values of this star brand that speak to readers in 43 countries across the globe are a natural integration for us. We are so happy to be associated with one of the world's top leaders in editorial, production, broadcasting and distribution of media content," explained Sophie Banford, publisher of both magazines and associate at KO Média.
 
Canada’s media landscape saw a period of transformation in recent years mainly due to the decline in the success of print publications.
 
Rogers Media, once a large Canadian publishing player, pulled the plug on its women’s magazine Loulou back in 2016, as well as ceasing the print edition of a number of its magazines, turning them into online-only publications. 
 
In March, Rogers exited the publication business all together selling the remainder of its seven publications to Toronto-based St. Joseph Communications, which also owns Toronto Life, Fashion, Wedding Bells and more. 

According to local media, KO Média still believes in the power of print and is continuing to see success with its current print publications.
