The American department store chain on Thursday announced new appointments to continue progress toward the accomplishment of its three-year, $4 billion turnaround plan, which it first announced this past October.
Thus, Kohl’s Corporation has announced the appointment of Michelle Gass to the newly created principal officer position of Chief Merchandising and Customer Officer. She will continue to report to Kevin Mansell, Kohl’s chairman, chief executive officer and president. Gass joined Kohl’s in 2013 following more than 22 years of retail, marketing and general management experience, including 16 years with Starbucks Corporation.
Kohl's has commenced an external search for a Chief Operating Officer, also a newly created principal officer position. The chief operating officer will have direct responsibility for the company's store operations, logistics and supply chain network, information and digital technology, e-commerce strategy and operations, and store construction and design.
Kohl's also announced that Wesley McDonald and Richard Schepp have been promoted to principal officer positions. McDonald will assume the newly created position of Chief Financial Officer, while Richard Schepp will assume the newly created position of Chief Administrative Officer.
In October 2014, Kohl's announced that it would be investing in mobile commerce and targeted marketing as part of a 3-year, $4 billion turnaround plan to try to reverse a steady sales decline, owing in particular to lower customer spending in its store and increased competition from online retailers.
