Kohl's names Dave Alves president and chief operating officer

Kohl's announced on Wednesday the appointment of retail veteran Dave Alves as president and chief operating officer.

In this role, effective in April, Alves will be responsible for Kohl's enterprise operations including its nearly 1,200 stores, global supply chain and distribution centers, real estate portfolio, purchasing, sustainability, risk management & compliance functions.

"We are thrilled to have Dave join our senior leadership team as we drive the business forward," said CEO Tom Kingsbury, who Alves will report to.

His deep retail background in department stores and off-price, and his experience across U.S. and global markets will be a great addition to our team.”

Alves has over 30 years of retail industry experience. Most recently, he was president and chief retail officer for Bealls Retail Group, overseeing all Bealls Stores, Bealls Outlet Stores, Burkes Outlet Stores, and Home Centric. Prior to Bealls, Alves held leadership roles at TJX Canada and TJX Europe, Hudson's Bay and Sterling Shoes.

Earlier this year, Kingsbury, named interim chief executive officer in December, took over the role on a permanent basis. He had been serving as an interim chief, since CEO Michelle Gass left Kohl's for jeans maker Levi Strauss & Co.

Most recently, the retailer also named 25-year retail veteran Nick Jones as chief merchandising and digital officer, further expanding its team.
