The Maine-based outdoor gear and apparel retailer will launch in the country with a 13,000-square-foot store in Oakville Place, located just outside Toronto. The brick-and-mortar store, which will house L.L. Bean’s latest products geared specifically for Canada, is expected to open August 23.
The company has teamed up with Toronto-based Jaytex Group, a 40-year old Canadian distributor of brand name outerwear and apparel, for its Canadian debut.
As part of its market entry, L.L. Bean will also roll out a specially curated offering of apparel and gear at several shop-in-shops in Hudson’s Bay stores across Canada.
“We’ve had a long, meaningful relationship with Canadian customers for decades, so we’re thrilled to be able to give our loyal Canadian fans a true comprehensive, omnichannel L.L. Bean experience, with a dedicated web site, Canadian catalogues, and now L.L. Bean retail stores,” said Stephen Smith, president and CEO of L.L. Bean, in a news statement.
“As a Maine-based company that shares a lot of commonalities with our northern neighbors, we’re eager to be infusing a bit of the Maine essence and L.L. Bean brand into the Canadian market.”
The U.S. company has had its eye on Canada in the last twelve months, opening a Canadian-specific website. Last month, it also launched a Canadian-only version of its catalogue featuring duty-inclusive prices, designed to make the shopping experience more convenient for customers.
L.L. Bean currently operates 44 stores in 18 states across the United States, as well as 28 stores in Japan.
