L’Occitane has announced the appointment of beauty industry veteran Laurent Marteau as group managing director.

Marteau has over 20 years of beauty experience, 15 of which he acquired in various senior management positions with LVMH Group.

In 2014, he joined La Prairie as vice president for global travel retail and special channels and became a board member that same year. Most recently, he was La Prairie vice president of Europe, the Americas, Middle East and Africa.

Effective September 1, in his new role, he will report directly to vice-chairman and chief executive officer André Hoffmann.

“We are delighted to welcome Laurent to further drive our transformation into a global, multi-brand group,” said Hoffmann, in a news statement. “His in-depth knowledge of the global beauty industry will be a real asset to accelerate our long-standing omni-channel strategy in our key markets.”

The move follows the appointment of Estelle de Bure who was named managing director, global travel retail, back in July. In this role, she will be responsible for driving growth and profitability for the group’s multi-brand travel retail business.

Estelle has been with the company since 2010. Prior to joining L’Occitane, she worked at L’Oréal for 12 years where she held various roles in marketing, sales and business development for Maybelline, L’Oréal Paris and Kiehl’s. She will now report to Marteau.

The group, which owns L'Occitane en Provence, Elemis, Melvita, and Sol de Janeiro among others, most recently recorded sales of €416 million, up 15.8 percent at constant exchange rates over the same period last year, in the first quarter of fiscal year 2022/2023 that closed on June 30.
