Lacoste links with National Geographic in capsule collection

Published
Nov 5, 2020

Lacoste has linked up with National Geographic for a novel capsule collection designed to celebrate the beauty of the natural world. The alliance turns out to be a blend of Lacoste’s timeless silhouettes with striking animal prints, all made in recycled and sustainable materials.

Look from the Lacoste X National Geographic capsule collection that launches Nov. 11, 2020

“It is a celebration of this Earth and all its wonder; and a call to action to remind the world of the importance of conservation,” said Lacoste in its release.

Lacoste x National Geographic includes menswear, womenswear and childrenswear themed around the magazine’s Photo Ark project. Directed by photographer and National Geographic Fellow Joel Sartore, the Photo Ark is a long-term plan to document every species living in the world’s zoos, aquariums, and wildlife sanctuaries.

The legendary French marque combed through Sartore’s existing archive of over 10,500 species, spotlighting four key animals. They are the Grévy’s Zebra; the Green and Black Poison Dart Frog; the Halloween Pennant Dragonfly and the Jaguar. Playing with the color palette – as  the croc goes stripey like the zebra, or speckled like the dart frog.

Necklines of polos and sweaters celebrate the famous design of the National Geographic magazine, a bold yellow stripe recalling the magazine’s borders. Toggles on jackets are also rendered in bold yellow, while all fastenings are branded. And a Gagnant trainer, a twist on the classic René shoe, comes with a Zebra-printed croc motif.

All materials within this collection, from the recycled polyester of the bags to the organic cotton of the polos and the natural rubber outsoles on footwear, are eco-responsible.

The collection includes: padded jackets, tops, T-shirts, sweaters, sunglasses, trainers, bags and underwear. Kids can even acquire a special sweatshirt with a customized giant crocodile in Zebra stripes or Jaguar spots.

The Lacoste x National Geographic collection will be available from November 11, 2020 in Lacoste’s e-shop and in physical stores and wholesalers.
