Le Château starts liquidations, closing all stores
Nov 3, 2020
As of Monday, Le Château has begun liquidating its inventory with discounts of 20 to 40 percent available at all of its 121 stores and online, just a week after announcing it was going out of business.
Gordon Brothers and Hilco Global have been retained to conduct store closing sales for the Canadian retailer, and during which its 900 retail store employees will continue to help customers.
Throughout the liquidation process, the Montreal-based fashion chain will remain fully operational, and physical stores are expected to remain open in conformity with provincial and regional guidelines. Customers can equally shop the sale 24/7 at Lechateau.com.
"We encourage consumers to shop early to take advantage of the best selection of products and great savings available throughout the stores and website. New arrivals in seasonal merchandise are also on sale just in time for the holiday season. Shop gifts that are sure to delight everyone on your shopping list at incredible savings,” a spokesperson for the JV Group said.
The 60-year-old retailer obtained creditor protection last month following impacts from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, which seriously hurt consumer demand for Le Château's holiday party and occasion wear - the core of its offering. This combined with years of sales declines, ultimately diminished its ability to pursue its activities.
On top of its retail store employees, another 500 head office employees will be affected by the closure.
