Levi’s had the pride of hosting Super Bowl 50 on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco, and on Tuesday the American company announced its 2016 Pride Collection in collaboration with the Harvey Milk Foundation.
The collection consists of gender-neutral styles designed in singular silhouettes for both genders. A number of styles represent Levi’s belief in equality like the Pride t-shirt featuring the company’s iconic Batwing logo in a rainbow colorway and other styles pay homage to Harvey Milk whose election to public office in 1977 and assassination inspired the collection.
The most notable pieces in the collection feature Milk’s bottle graphic like the ringer t-shirt and tanktop and denim trucker jacket.
Harvey Milk was the first openly gay American politician who was elected to public office in California. During his short career in politics, he became an icon and martyr for the gay community by passing many gay rights ordinance for the city before his untimely death in 1978. Actor, Sean Penn acted as Milk in the Gus Van Sant directed biopic, Milk. Milk’s nephew, Stuart, and his campaign manager and political aide, Anne Kronenberg, founded the Harvey Milk Foundation in 2009, one year after the film released, to support LGBT youth and promote education that includes Harvey’s and the LGBT community’s story.
