Loewe opens new flagship store on London's New Bond Street

Loewe has finally opened the doors of its highly-anticipated Casa Loewe on New Bond Street in London after a year of refurbishment.

The three-storey flagship store replaces the luxury brand’s Mount Street boutique to become the only Loewe shop in the UK capital. But more than just a store, Casa Loewe is a destination, where the label’s latest collections are showcased alongside artworks and design pieces in line with Jonathan Anderson’s vision.

Since Anderson’s arrival as creative director of the Spanish high-end brand in 2013, Loewe has been progressively expanding its universe to include arts and crafts into its design codes. The Casa Loewe concept, already tested in Madrid and Tokyo, builds on this by incorporating a pop-up space that will hosting a series of art installations. This new direction is intrinsically linked with the house’s Craft Prize, which celebrates the most innovative and exciting craft makers in the world, as well as its Chance Encounters exhibition in Miami.

But art will also be a permanent feature at the store. The carefully curated interior design features 14 artists representing a range of art forms, including sculptures by Ernst Gamperl, photographs by Alair Gomes, and Grayson Perry’s subversive ‘Mum and Dad’ vase. Other artworks by Nicholas Byrne, Giorgio Griffa, Caragh Thuring, Magali Reus, Sara Flynn, Daniel Sinsel y David Wojnarowicz are also on show.

The space is designed to feel like a home, where fashion, art and design can meet in a way that feels natural to both the brand and the consumer. A cylindrical staircase, made by hand using Campaspero limestone from Valladolid, Spain, connects the three floors, while a glass-encased lift echoes its counterpart in the Madrid flagship store.

The opening sees Loewe take residence in one of London’s key destinations for luxury fashion. Also with a presence there are Chanel, Fendi, Dior and Ralph Lauren.
