London Fashion Week opens up to the public

Published
Jul 15, 2019

In light of the growing public interest towards fashion, the British Fashion Council is bringing London Fashion Week closer to the wider audience by announcing a new hybrid format.

Starting from September 2019, London Fashion Week will be the first of the four global fashion weeks to offer dedicated experiences for both a trade and public audience through one schedule.

Aimed at increasing engagement and helping designer businesses reach new audiences, the new format will include the official London Fashion Week alongside a consumer-facing London Fashion Week Hub.

It builds on the BFC’s ‘London Fashion Week: Insiders’ concept, a consumer event launched in February to give shoppers more access to see-now, buy-now catwalk shows and immersive brand experiences.

Press, buyers and industry professionals will continue to attend London Fashion Week from 13-17 September, while the public will be able to purchase a ticket to an immersive LFW experience that will include six public catwalk shows on 14-15 September at the official London Fashion Week Hub.

Tickets will also offer access to creative installations, industry-led panel talks, the DiscoveryLAB (an experiential space where fashion meets art, technology and music) and a brand new Designer Exhibition, which will focus on sustainability, community and ethics.

The British Fashion Council said the Designer Exhibition, open to both trade visitors and consumers, will be the place “where guests discover new creative brands and progressive designers, explore compelling stories and learn about how the fashion industry can be used as a force for change”.

This is part of the organisation’s #PositiveFashion initiative, which seeks to celebrate industry best practice and encourage future business decisions to create positive change.

And in addition to the London Fashion Week Hub, the British Fashion Council will help curate a series of events and activations with key retailers, cultural institutions, brands and partners to engage communities throughout the capital during September.

Over the past few seasons, London Fashion Week has been evolving to interact with more shoppers and take advantage of the growing interest in designer fashion.

The British Fashion Council said it wants to introduce fashion to a wider pool of people and promote the wide range of careers and opportunities that the industry holds.

London Fashion Week Hub tickets are now available online from £135.
