Kitson, the Los Angeles fashion boutique chain, announced on Thursday that it is going out of business. The retailer will close all 17 of its stores in California, Oregon and Nevada and shut down its online business.
The Kitson website began advertising 30% to 50% off all items and a “going out of business” sale at all of its retail stores, which is being handled by liquidators Gordon Brothers Group and Hilco Merchant Resources, according to the company.
The American media reported that James Wong, Kitson’s chief restructuring officer, said in a statement that the retailer was talking to interested parties to preserve the brand.
Kitson became a very popular store chain for its star-studded clientele, but it hit a financial rough patch in recent years. In 2013, the retailer received a $15 million credit line from Salus Capital Partners to refinance its debts, and according to the Wall Street Journal this summer, Spencer Spirit Holdings Inc. agreed to extend a loan to Kitson to pay down the loan to Salus.
Kitson operates 15 retail locations in California in West Hollywood, Santa Monica, San Diego, Malibu, Santa Barbara, Newport Beach, Brea, Arcadia and Camarillo, and locations in Portland, OR and Las Vegas.
