Lululemon, TJX, The Outlets at Tejon begin store reopening

Published
May 22, 2020

More retailers prepared to open across North America on Thursday, following about two months of closures due to the Covid-19 pandemic and stay at home orders.

Brands such as Lululemon are gradually starting to welcome guests back to select locations, as well as major retailers and malls, including TJX and The Outlets at Tejon, in California.

As of Thursday, Lululemon said it had reopened over 150 store locations across North America, Europe, Asia, New Zealand and Australia, with approximately 200 additional locations set to reopen over the next two weeks.

The majority of Lululemon stores have been closed since mid-March. It said that it is taking a phased reopening approach, which incorporates key learnings from its successful reopening in Greater China in March. Store openings are currently being carried out week-by-week, market-by-market in accordance with local government and public health authority guidelines.

TJX Companies

Off-price apparel and home fashions retailer TJX Companies said on Thursday that it started reopening stores in select states and countries in accordance with local government guidelines, as of May 2. To date, the company has reopened more than 1,600 of its stores worldwide. It temporarily closed all stores, distribution centers, and offices, as well as its U.S. e-commerce sites, as of March 19.

As for sales, it said in a news statement that: “Initial sales overall have been above last year’s sales across all states and countries for the over 1,100 stores that have been reopened for at least a week. However, it is still early in the quarter and sales could fluctuate.”

The Outlets at Tejon

The Outlets at Tejon in California announced on Thursday that it will be open to the public once again as of May 27. The Outlets are equally following a “phased reopening”, which means some individual stores may open sooner than others.

The 365,000-square-foot premier shopping destination is taking all the steps necessary to ensure the safety of its guests by installing hand-sanitizing stations in specific public areas within the center, as well as signage reminding everyone of recommended Covid-19 safety precautions.
