Lush is working with Ocean Legacy Foundation on eco-friendly packaging

Published
Jul 6, 2017

The skincare company has partnered with the Ocean Legacy Foundation to convert plastic recovered from the ocean into packaging for its products.

As part of the new initiative, Lush has set a goal of recovering 27 tons of garbage and debris from the ocean surrounding Vancouver, British Columbia, the site of the company’s North American headquarters. The Urban Resource Group will work with the brand to convert the collected plastic into plastic pellets, which will then be combined with the remaining garbage to create new packaging for the brand’s skincare products.

The project is partially funded by Lush’s own Charity Pot initiative, which gives money from the sales of its Charity Pot body lotion to various non-profits that work towards animal rights and environmental conservation.

The skincare and cosmetics company has staged initiatives to preserve the ocean and other political causes in the past. As part of World Ocean Day in June, Lush donated 100 percent of the sales of its Shark Fin soap to Rob Stewart’s foundation. Lush also launched a campaign in May to end the death penalty in the United States.

The Ocean Legacy Foundation is a Canadian organization which works to end ocean pollution by providing education to communities and funding cleaning expeditions. Lush was founded in 1995 and is headquartered in Poole, England.
