LXR launches Canadian rental program for pre-loved goods
Montreal-based company LXR is entering the rental market with the goal to bring luxury handbags and accessories to more Canadians.
The omni-channel retailer of pre-loved vintage luxury handbags and accessories has inaugurated a rental program, which will allow customers to rent authenticated vintage pieces from three to twelve months at a time via its website. Furthermore, should the customer desire, they are able to purchase their bag at any time during the rental period.
Currently, customers can choose from over 90 coveted styles, and rent a bag, for the price of a coffee a day. The selection includes iconic brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Celine, and Hermès, to name a few. The initiative is in line with the brand’s commitment to promoting sustainability within the industry and to make luxury more accessible.
“Our mission is to make pre-loved luxury handbags accessible to a broader variety of consumers while lowering our environmental impact,” explained Aurore Colliaux, website business lead of LXR.
“By doing so, we are able to open up the luxury market to a new set of consumers by providing greater price-point accessibility, without their having to compromise on quality. This fits in perfectly with our aim of democratizing pre-loved luxury handbags and having a larger positive impact on responsible consumption.”
LXR is one of many retailers to embrace rental services, though luxury handbag rental is one of the key areas of the rental market. LXR’s program will be the largest rental program of pre-loved luxury handbags offered in Canada.
LXR was founded in 2010. The company went through a period of intense transformation in 2017 after aggressively opening stores and expanding its product offering. It has since streamlined its product line and returned to its roots with an increased focus on branded vintage luxury women's handbags and accessories.
Last month, it was Kering who stepped into the rental market via an investment in London-based handbag rental specialist Cocoon. On the clothing side, Rebecca Minkoff also debuted a new rental experience launched by B2B retail tech platform CaaStle, joining brands such as Banana Republic, Express, Destination Maternity, and Rebecca Taylor, to name a few who are powering subscription-based rental services in the U.S.
