Macy's appoints David Abney to board of directors
Macy’s Inc. announced on October 16 that it has appointed David Abney to its board of directors effective from October 25.
David Abney, the chairman and chief executive officer of United Parcel Service, Inc., has been appointed to Macy’s board of directors, the company announced on Tuesday. Abney’s appointment takes to board to a total of 11 members and he will serve on the Compensation and Management Development Committee.
“David is a strong leader who understands what we need to win in this dynamic, competitive retail environment,” said Jeff Gennette, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s, Inc., in a press release. “We are excited to have him join our board and look forward to his contributions.”
Abney has previously served as chairman and chief executive officer of UPS, Inc. since 2016 and 2014, respectively and before that was chief operating officer at the business. Abney has a degree in business administration from Delta State University and has also worked at of SonicAir and on the board at Catalyst.
“David’s track record and expertise complement the skills and background of our current directors, and we know he will be a strong addition,” said Marna Whittington, lead independent director at Macy’s, Inc. in a press release.
