Macy's president exits company

Macy’s has announced that Hal Lawton, the president of the Macy’s brand business, has resigned, effective December 6, 2019.

Lawton first joined Macy’s as president in September 2017. He is leaving the company to take on the roll of president, chief executive officer and member of the board of directors for Tractor Supply, a Brentwood, Tennessee-based farming supply chain. He also currently serves on the board of directors for Sealed Air Corporation. 

Previously, Lawton has served on the board of directors for Buffalo Wild Wings, and has held the role of senior vice president with Ebay and senior vice president of merchandising with The Home Depot, among other roles. 

“[Lawton] has made significant contributions to the business over the past two years, including improving the Macy’s operational cadence,” said Jeff Gennette, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s Inc.

“[Lawton] also helped us build an excellent team and, with their leadership, I’m confident that Macy’s will continue strong execution through Holiday 2019 and beyond.”  

In November, Macy’s Inc cut its annual profit forecast for the second time this year as the department store operator blamed weak international tourism, warm weather and sluggish mall traffic for the first drop in same-store sales in two years.
