Man Repeller and Klarna team up for shopping pop-up at Showfields

Published
Jul 30, 2019

Swedish banking company Klarna has partnered with New York City-based media brand Man Repeller for a curated shopping pop-up at Showfields -- New York’s highly experiential shopping destination.

Man Repeller

Opened on July 29, the pop-up features an assortment of clothes, shoes and accessories picked by members of the Man Repeller team, many of whom double as micro-influencers on social media, thanks to the fan-base they have grown through the media company. Featured brands include Repeller, Man Repeller's in-house accessories collection, as well as Coco & Breezy, Cuts, M.Gemi, Planet Blue and Wolven.

Inside the pop-up, shoppers will have the opportunity to make purchases using Klarna’s alternative payment system, which allows users to pay for items in four equal payments collected bi-weekly without interest or fees. Those who cannot make it to the physical location can also shop the pop-up online at Man Repeller’s shopping site, using Klarna’s payment method.

Described as a “highly-instagrammable” space, the shop falls in line with Showfields’ business strategy to become what it called “the most interesting store in the world” through its focus on immersive, eye-popping retail projects.

First opened in December 2018, the four-story brick-and-mortar building plays host to customized flagship spaces for brands including Boodles Gin, Book of the Month, Treasures of NYC and CFDA x Isa Tapia -- a retail space with the CFDA meant to expose shoppers to new designers through a rotating list of featured labels. There is also the Klarna x Daniel Wellington store, one of Klarna’s other fashion retail partnerships featuring the popular watch brand.

As recent studies have shown, the popularity of online shopping and ‘buy now, pay later’ methods are growing rapidly with Gen Z and Millennial shoppers. This segment want more accessible options for buying luxury, and alternate payment platforms are taking advantage by partnering with some of the two demographics’ most popular brands and retailers.

For Klarna, the shop with Man Repeller marks the newest addition to the Swedish company’s roster of 130,000 merchants, making Klarna the largest alternative payment provider in the U.S., the company said. Additional companies that incorporate the payment method include Abercrombie & Fitch, H&M and Moss Bros, among others.

Shoppers can visit the Man Repeller x Klarna shop at Showfields, located at 11 Bond Street in Manhattan.
