Italian fashion group Missoni, which on September 22 fêted its 65th anniversary with an unforgettable show-event in the new CityLife residential and business district in Milan, announced on October 3 the appointment of Margherita Maccapani Missoni as creative director of the M Missoni line.

After bringing the M Missoni ready-to-wear license back in-house last spring, the Missoni group is planning to innovate both the style and positioning of the collection. Leveraging Missoni’s three-generation heritage as a family-run business, the group put creativity for M Missoni in the hands of Margherita Missoni, back with the company after a few years spent pursuing other professional projects.

“I am both proud and overjoyed to welcome Margherita back to the Missoni Group" said Angela Missoni, president and creative director of the group, as well as the mother of Margherita and daughter of group founders Ottavio Missoni and Rosita Jelmini. "In her professional trajectory within and outside the company, Margherita has demonstrated her considerable skills. With her innovative creativity and natural understanding of style, she also proved to be a successful communicator of the house codes. I am confident that Margherita's talents will be extremely relevant for M Missoni's future success. The Spring/Summer 2020 collection will be the first under her creative directorship.”

Michele Norsa, vice-president of the Missoni group and industrial partner of FSI [the investment fund which bought a 41.2% stake in the group last June, for €70 million] said that Margherita’s diverse professional experience fits perfectly with the global expansion plan undertaken by M Missoni. Besides extending the product range, the line is targeting robust growth both in the retail and e-tail channels.

M Missoni was founded in 1998 and currently generates a revenue of over €50 million. It is distributed in 60 countries worldwide via over 700 retailers. The Missoni group generates a global revenue of €150 million, 75% of which comes from outside Italy, and has approximately 300 employees. The Missoni family still owns a 58.8% stake in the group.
