Marvin Traub passes away

Published
Jul 13, 2012

Marvin Traub, a leading figure of the American retail industry, passed away this week aged 87. He headed up Bloomingdale’s for several decades, introducing designer wear into the store and making a huge success of its merchandising and marketing – both on the shop floor and at the large-scale exhibitions that he enjoyed organising in stores.

With Traub leading the field, American department stores became a model for the rest of the world to follow, to such an extent that today the students – notably in Paris – have become the master.

Everyone, or at least those in the industry, has Marvin Traub to thank for having found them a place – small or large – on the fashion scene of one of the world’s biggest markets, North America.
