Mary Katrantzou capsule to star in Victoria's Secret show

Published

Last year Victoria’s Secret teamed up with Olivier Rousteing and Balmain for a capsule collection linked to its high-profile fashion show and this time it’s partnering with another designer name, but one with a slightly lower-profile, Mary Katrantzou.

Victoria's Secret x Mary Katrantzou was announced on Instagram

The London Fashion Week favourite may not have the instant name recognition of Balmain, but her vivid prints have made her a popular pick for collaborations (an earlier link-up with Adidas saw her high-end vision being applied to more affordable athleisure pieces).

Next month, the globally-famous Victoria’s Secret fashion show will see a mini collection by the designer making its debut in her company’s 10th anniversary year.

“My work is about perception and perspective and filtering beauty through design to allow women to stand out. I wanted to turn that on its head and look at the ‘foundation’ that we wear as women, underneath the clothes I usually design in my collections. Underwear is the first protective layer that has the ability to reinforce a woman’s confidence,” she told Vogue of the collaboration.

Not that we know much else as Victoria’s Secret is keeping the collection under wraps for now. But we can expect plenty of power print. The collab was actually revealed on Instagram with a short film that showed colourful prints via a kaleidoscope effect.

“I wanted the collection to be colourful and uplifting, bold, and strong. It’s designed to empower women to have fun with their undergarments and feel free to explore pattern and colour as a second skin,” she added to Vogue.

She also said that the pieces can be worn as underwear or as actual clothing and that “there’s a nod to silhouettes that we’ve developed in past collections, but there are also new silhouettes that we designed with VS in mind.”

The designer worked with the lingerie label’s design team, as well as with the creative director of the VS Fashion Show, Sophia Neophitou-Apostolou, and its executive producer, Monica Mitro. And the line-up of supermodels who are the stars of the show (the VS Angels) also had a say in the capsule.
