Maus Frères enters exclusive negotiations to buy The Kooples

The Kooples is about to become part of the brand portfolio of Swiss group Maus Frères.

The Kooples

The French label founded in 2008 by the brothers Alexandre, Laurent and Raphaël Elicha is expected to join Maus Frères’s international brands division, led by Thierry Guibert and including Lacoste, Gant and Aigle, by the end of the first half of 2019.

In 2018, The Kooples reported a revenue of €227 million, notably generated by its 334 monobrand stores, chiefly located in Europe and the USA.

“In the last few years, we have worked on strengthening and significantly broadening the business of our existing brands. The Kooples would complement our portfolio with its directional, urban/rocker brand positioning, evolving in the accessible luxury direction. We are attracted by its positioning and potential, which enabled the label to grow in balanced fashion with womenswear and menswear right from its inception,” said Didier Maus, president of the Swiss group’s board of directors.

“Besides, the acquisition is perfectly aligned with the global strategy of Maus Frères. In Switzerland, we are focusing our efforts on the Manor and Jumbo mass-market distribution chains, respectively leader and co-leader in their markets, while internationally we are expanding and managing a brand portfolio of premium global brands, to which The Kooples would be a perfect complement,” added Maus.

The clout of the Maus Frères group, which has enabled Lacoste to top the €2 billion revenue mark, could allow The Kooples to further boost its international footprint.
