Max Mara debuts limited edition bag for the Whitney Museum's one-year anniversary

Max Mara is celebrating the Whitney Museum of American Art with a limited edition, one-year anniversary bag.

The Renzo Piano Building Workshop, the designers behind the Whitney Museum, designed the limited edition bag and drew inspiration from the New York City museum’s founder Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney. The collaboration celebrates the museum's one-year anniversary and coincides with the preview of the museum's newest exhibit, “Human Interest: Portraits of the Whitney’s Collection".

The Whitney Bag, which first launched in 2015, features modular strips that pay homage to the museum’s façade. The one-year anniversary bag features leaf and flower patterns embossed using a special technique.

The Renzo Piano Building Workshop said, “We decided to take up the proposal by Max Mara because it was closely connected to the Whitney Museum of American Art and its upcoming opening to the public, and also with the intention of dedicating the profits to the Renzo Piano Foundation to finance its cultural and educational projects. We tried to maintain a simple, pure [bag] design, working only on the details by applying a creative use of technology and placing the accent on respect for the materials.”

Max Mara and the Whitney Museum have collaborated in the past for the museum's official opening event among others.

The Whitney one-year anniversary bag launches on April 27 exclusively online, in selected boutiques globally and at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
