Canadian outdoor retailer Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) is relocating its Toronto flagship store to a new 35,750-square-foot space.

Set to open on April 13, the store will move to a new purpose-built store at 300 Queen Street West and will offer a wider assortment of products and services across two floors.

Some of the new features include an open-concept community space, which will be used to host how-to clinics, community events and more, as well as a 1,000-square-foot wall for in-store climbing and a new full-service bike repair and ski shop.

"The new Toronto flagship will act as a hub for local residents, urban commuters and active people across the GTA, making it the place to start any adventure. By relocating to this highly accessible location, we are better able to serve our members, adding lasting value, vibrant in-store experiences and vitality through our services and programming,” said MEC Director of Store Development, George Bevan, in a news statement.

The space, which features a distinctive floating canopy to mark the store's entrance and interior wood elements, was designed to be easily reached by foot, by bike from multiple routes, by transit or by car with three levels of underground parking available.

When the store opens, it will hub the latest MEC Label spring collection, developed by new Senior Director of Product Design and Production, Wendy Youds.

Established in 1971, MEC is Canada's largest consumer co-operative with more than 5 million members across the country. It operates 23 stores nationwide.
