MLB to open flagship in New York City
Major League Baseball is set to open its own brick-and-mortar flagship in New York City in the summer of 2020.
Marking MLB’s first permanent retail location in the United States, the flagship comes as part of a broader move of the organization’s headquarters.
Set to open its doors at 1271 Avenue of the Americas, the 17,000 square-foot, two-floor store will be located across from Radio City Music Hall in Midtown Manhattan.
According to a press statement from the league, the store will offer a variety of officially licensed products, including a full range of MLB licensees, historical franchises in the Cooperstown Collection and authenticated game-used memorabilia. In addition, the store will also offer products unique to New York City, as well as customization options.
MLB has partnered with Legends, the hospitality and sales group co-owned by the New York Yankees, to operate the store. Legends Project Development will manage the flagship’s design and construction.
“This new retail location in a busy area of Manhattan gives us another unique way to market our players and teams and help continue to grow the sport,” said Tony Petitti, MLB deputy commissioner, business and media.
“We plan to provide our fans a best-in-class shopping experience and look forward to making this store a reality with our world-class partners at Legends.”
“Building an iconic retail footprint in the United States’ most dynamic city, celebrating America’s greatest pastime is a significant moment for our company,” added Legends president and CEO, Shervin Mirhashemi.
“Off the strength of our deep experience in merchandise solutions, we are committed to creating an unparalleled shopping experience for baseball fans worldwide. We’re thrilled that Major League Baseball has chosen our team to help launch their state-of-the-art flagship store.”
