Mode Media, the Brisbane, CA-based digital lifestyle media company, shut down on Thursday. The American media is reporting that the company abruptly closed its business even after generating $90 million in revenue last year.

Formerly known as Project Y and Glam Media, Mode Media was originally a website that provided fashion and beauty content before adding websites Glam.com in 2005 during New York Fashion Week, as well as Brash, Bliss, Tend, and Foodie. In 2011, the company acquired social media platform Ning. During its 10-plus year existence, Mode Media raised $225 million from Accel, DFJ, Walden, Information Capital and investors Burda and Dentsu.

Recode noted that Mode Media was named the 10th largest digital publisher in the U.S. by comScore. In addition, the company was projected to generate $100 million in revenue in 2016 according to the press.

With Mode Media officially shut down, Ning.com has been passed to Cyndx Holdings, a New York-based investment bank.
