Mode in France triples sessions for Asia

Published
Apr 27, 2014

Mode in France is multiplying and dividing. As FashionMag.com reported this January, the French Federation of Women's Ready-to-Wear will be launching two satellites in Taipei and Hong Kong this summer. The federation is the creator of Mode in France Tokyo, first held in 1996. The organization will be bringing French brands to Hong Kong July 15 to 17, continuing on to Taiwan July 19 to 21 and ending up in Japan July 23 to 25.

The team led by Patricia Brafman, director of exports at the federation, took the opportunity to change the event name from Mode in France Tokyo to Mode in France Asia.

Mode in France Tokyo attracted some sixty exhibitors.

The Hong Kong edition is a brand new show, whereas in Taiwan, the federation is reviving an event it created in 1993 but canceled in 2004. In 2011, it turned over event management to Ubifrance.

This February, the federation released its annual report for 2013. It comes as no surprise that China and Hong Kong are still the leading customers of French fashion, accounting for 11.4% of women's fashion exports, an increase of 27.9% over the prior year.

China and Hong Kong are ahead of the United States (8.9% of total exports, up 5.9%), while Japan (6% of exports, up 1%) is holding onto eighth place, bringing exports of French Fashion to Asia to 50.6%.
