Montreal fashion receives $50,000 in government support

The city of Montreal and the Quebec Government are teaming up to provide financial support to two Montreal fashion initiatives.

City officials announced on Thursday that they will provide funding of $30,000 Canadian to the organization Mode Avant-Première for their upcoming event Fashion Preview, as well as funding of $20,000 Canadian towards the Montreal Fashion Museum for their upcoming exhibition.

City officials said that the funding was provided in order to boost Montreal’s notoriety as a fashion city and to showcase the artistic potential and know-how of the city’s industry.

“The fashion industry is an important source of economic development for the city of Montreal and Quebec,” said Martin Coiteux, Quebec Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy, Minister of Public Security and Minister responsible for the Montréal region, in a news statement.

“This sector will help position the city as a centre for creation and innovation, and puts at the forefront the audacity and talent of our designers.”

Fashion Preview is a fashion showcase for Independent designers in Montreal. It launched in 2014 following the cancelation of Montreal’s official fashion week. The 7th edition of Fashion Preview will take place March 27 to the 29.

Meanwhile, formerly called the Musée du costume et du textile du Québec, the upcoming exhibit at the Montreal Fashion Museum will open May 5 and will highlight the biggest names from the many areas of Montreal’s fashion industry.
