Montreal’s Fashion & Design Festival ends after 20 brands show
On Saturday, Montreal’s Fashion & Design Festival came to a close ending the six-day event dedicated to creativity with a special focus on Montreal-based brands and designers.
The event, which once again took over the downtown scene in Montreal’s Quartier des Spectacles, featured four days of runway shows. Over 20 fashion shows took place including from Montreal designers like Arti Gogna and Eve Gravel, as well as from major Canadian brands like La Vie en Rose, Ardene, Dynamite and more.
The event, organized by Groupe Sensation Mode, also kicked off with a conference series and was home to over 40 pop-up boutiques.
While all the shows offered a fun and consumer engaging showcase, some designers and brands truly showed the best of what Montreal fashion has to offer.
Montreal fashion design grad, Marie-Eve Aubry, hit the Fashion & Design Festival runway with a sporty collection for men and women. The designer’s outerwear was the collections sweet spot including parkas, puffer jackets and ponchos, at times presented with matching joggers and trousers. The collection was characterized by pops of yellow, army print and the occasional splash of silver.
Longstanding Montreal-based designer Eve Gravel debuted her Fall/Winter 2018 collection on the Fashion & Design Festival runway, which included well-tailored basics that the designer has long been known for. Versatile items such as wrap dresses, blouses and long jackets were presented in seasonally appropriate tones and prints, and trendy cuts.
Meanwhile, dress designer Arti Gogna presented her most recent collection of formalwear on the runway, dubbed Rebirth. The collection included a mix of cocktail style dresses, gowns, 2-piece sets and one gold jumpsuit that stole the show.
After launching its first capsule collection with Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Canadian retailer Ardene closed the Fashion & Design Festival with the Fall Kendall and Kylie collection. The fast fashion teen retailer snagged the celebrity sisters as part of a long-term exclusive design agreement.
The Fashion & Design Festival is organized by Groupe Sensation Mode. It is the biggest outdoor happening of its kind in North America. More than 550,000 festival goers were expected this year.
