Moschino and Thomas Tait guests of honor at Pitti Uomo

Published

A big Italian name and a young foreign designer. For its upcoming edition scheduled to take place in Florence from June 16-19, 2015, Pitti Uomo is having it both ways by showcasing both Made in Italy and an experimental international brand.

Moschino will be the Florentine trade show’s guest of honor for menswear, organizers announced in a statement. The brand’s show will be the not-to-miss event during 88th Pitti Uomo, since it will be the first time that Jeremy Scott is presenting Moschino men's collection in Italy since becoming the brand’s creative director in 2013.

The eclectic designer has presented his menswear collections in London until now, while the brand had previously put its menswear shows on hold.

Known for the in-your-face kind of humor employed in his collections and considered as a true pop icon, Jeremy Scott should not disappoint. "There is lots of originality in his work - he seems to have a sort of special-sensor focused on our times - in the way he combines fabrics and materials, especially the finest types, because his fashion is luxurious," said the head of Pitti Uomo, Raffaello Napoleone, in a press release.

"In Jeremy Scott’s collections, we see the humor, the irreverence, the tendency to explode myths, and the manipulation of pop iconography," he continued, drawing parallels to Franco Moschino’s work.

As for womenswear, Pitti Uomo has decided to put the spotlight on Canadian designer Thomas Tait. Last year, the talented designer took home the LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize. Originally from Quebec, he first studied fashion at LaSalle College in Montreal before leaving Canada in 2008 to study in London, specializing in ready-to-wear at Central Saint Martins College.

After leaving the school in 2010, he created his own womenswear brand, presenting since 2011 in London. Today, his shows are one of the hottest events during Fashion Week. His style is characterized by both an impeccable mastery of cuts and great creative audacity.

"We like his rigor, his tailoring skills, the unexpected volumes and the dry devotion to design. All of this without being afraid to experiment and to push the limits further," said Lapo Cianchi, events and communications director of Pitti Immagine. Thomas Tait has been invited "to express his creativity in Florence with a project that is not usual for him, helped by the particular sites of Florence," said the organizers without adding anything else.

Among the other special projects announced for the trade fair is the "Il Signor Nino" exhibition, dedicated to Nino Cerruti, "the great protagonist of Italian menswear."

In addition, the "designer Project" of Pitti Uomo 88 will be Anglo-Italian designer Carlo Brandelli, creative director of Savile Row, Kilgour.
