NBA All-Star Weekend fashion recap

Published
Feb 15, 2016

It seems Toronto’s NBA All-Star Weekend which came to an end on Sunday, was as much about fashion as it was about basketball. Fashion promotions took on various forms and targeted basketball fans as well as celebrities and NBA players.

To start, NBA players traveling to Toronto arrived on Friday in limited-edition Canada Goose Macmillan parkas. Two jackets were designed and created for the players including the Carbon Camo for the Eastern Conference All Stars, and the Classic Camo for their Western Conference counterparts.

In the sportswear department, Nike, Under Armour and Adidas battled it out, this weekend. Adidas made their mark on players as the NBA’s official apparel provider, while Nike tried for retail sales by opening several pop-up stores including Canada’s first Jordan-only store and a members-only sneaker store, which opened shop in a streetcar. Meanwhile, Under Armour used all-star weekend to introduce its Stephen Curry shoe in new colours.

One of Toronto’s most prominent mall’s, Yorkdale, also joined in on the action with a guest appearance by James Harden on Thursday. According to Yordale Style’s twitter page (@YorkdaleStyle), Raptors player Patrick Patterson also made a stop at the mall for some weekend shopping at Versace.

And no fashionable event can be without celebrity appearances. Fortunately, the NBA All-Star Weekend Celebrity Game took care of that. Celebrities like comedian Kevin Hart and Arcade Fire’s Win Butler, took to the court, while Canadian rapper, Drake, remained fashionably on the sidelines to coach Team Canada.
