Based at Boston's new multi-use development Boston Landing, the complex, which has been designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects and will be constructed by John Moriarty Associates, will feature a retail and food service space on the ground floor.

Sports facilities will include a hydraulically-banked 200-meter indoor track, regulation hard court and turf field spaces and a separate warm-up track. Seating at the track will have a capacity of up to 5,000 spectators.

Also on site, the New Balance Athletics Sports Research Lab will be a 20,000-square-foot research facility focused on product innovation and the study of human performance and biomechanics.

Designed to complement the work of the Boston-based company’s existing Sports Research Lab in Lawrence, Massachusetts, the new facility will examine performance in running, soccer, baseball, tennis and basketball, among other sports, using next generation motion capture, specialty treadmills and force platform technology. The site will also feature an altitude and climate lab, a body scanning facility and a metabolic lab.

“The Lab at Boston Landing will offer New Balance new and exciting opportunities to interact with thousands of athletes to help align our research and innovation with their needs as they drive for excellence and achievement,” explained the company’s senior director of innovation and engineering Sean Murphy in a press release.

Conceived in collaboration with concert promotion and venue management company The Bowery Presents, The Track’s concert venue – which is yet to be named – will have a capacity of 3,500.

Construction at The Track at New Balance is expected to complete at Boston Landing in late summer 2021.
