Nike and A.L.C. collaborate on a new Cortez shoe

The ready-to-wear brand founded by Andrea Lieberman has created a new version of the classic Nike Cortez, launching on August 25.

In its first collaboration with Nike, Los Angeles-based brand A.L.C. has created a new take on the classic Cortez shoe rendered in soft neutrals. The women’s sneakers will retail for $100 a pair and come in three colors, each with a different slogan from the A.L.C. t-shirt line on the inside. The blush-toned shoe will include the line, “Love More,” gray the words “Do It. Own It,” and off-white “Think How You Can.”

Lieberman’s take on the Cortez will also include two different lengths of shoelaces, a traditional shorter shoelace and, in a first for Nike, a longer shoelace that can be tied around the ankle akin to a ballet shoe.

According to the celebrity stylist turned designer, the Cortez collaboration is meant to offer women a more sophisticated take on the tennis shoe. “I wanted the Cortez by A.L.C. to be an elevated option for the modern woman. A sneaker that could fit seamlessly into our wardrobes and our lives,” Lieberman stated.

Earlier this year, Nike also collaborated with Nordstrom’s vice president of creative projects, Olivia Kim, and street artist Mister Cartoon on new versions of the Cortez, in honor of the 45th anniversary of the sneaker.

The new Cortez shoes will be available on August 25 at Nike x Nordstrom sneaker boutiques and Nordstrom’s location in The Grove shopping center in Los Angeles. Starting August 28, the limited edition sneaker will be more widely available at both Nike and A.L.C.’s online stores and on Net-a-Porter
