Nike opens new NYC headquarters with indoor basketball court

Nike has found a new home in New York City. The Beaverton, OR-based company, as part of its "global initiative to add resources in influential sport and style hubs," moved its New York City headquarters to 855 6th Avenue in lower Midtown Manhattan.
 

Nike moved its headquarters to the 150,000-square-foot, 6-floor office space to be in a central location for its New York City stores in the Upper East Side, Midtown, Flatiron, SoHo, and Flatbush in Brooklyn.
 
The new headquarters features an open-plan workspace with Miniwiz-designed ceiling tiles made from recycled materials, and houses a 4,000-square-foot basketball court that is available for Nike employees, high school teams, community partners, and local leagues, a roof terrace with plants that form a giant Nike swoosh logo, an indoor food truck, and a Volkswagen van that serves as a meeting place and hearkens to the early days of Nike when Bill Bowerman and Jeff Johnson would give out shoes at track meets.

Nike designed the new headquarters to better serve its customers, which is part of the sportswear company’s Consumer Direct Offense that was announced in mid-June. Nike kicked off the new business plan by cutting 2% of its global workforce, or 1,400 workers, and a quarter of its shoe styles, to be more “aggressive in the digital marketplace” and deliver product “faster than ever.”
 
New York City is one of 12 cities that will follow Nike’s new business plan, as well as Los Angeles, Mexico City, London, Milan, Paris, Barcelona, Berlin, Shanghai, Beijing, Seoul and Tokyo. Nike also reduced its geographic operating segments to four regions: North America, Asia Pacific and Latin America, Greater China, and the Europe, Middle East and Africa, or EMEA.

In addition, Nike's new company President Trevor Edwards will implement the new business strategy.
