Nike unveils Stranger Things collection

Nike has debuted its collaboration with Netflix sci-fi TV series, 'Stranger Things'.

The first drop of the Nike X Stranger Things capsule includes three sneakers - the Cortez, Blazer and Tailwind - as well as apparel such as sweat suits and t-shirts. The drop incorporates Stranger Things’ Hawkins High green and orange colorways, as well as the school’s tiger mascot. The pieces will launch on June 27.

The latest season of Stranger Things is set in the summer of 1985, and an 80s influence is evident in the collaboration. According to Nike, 1985 not only allows for retro styles, but also marks an iconic year in athleticwear history.

“The sporting world in 1985 was also undergoing a radical change — energy was reverberating from the summer games in Los Angeles and pro basketball was swinging firmly into its showtime era,” Nike said in a statement.

“At Nike, 1985 was the year visible Air began to take shape (realized two years later in the Air Max I) and when the iconic Dunk emerged on collegiate basketball courts. Meanwhile, the Cortez, Blazer and Tailwind remained sport and style staples, granting a timely authenticity to the Stranger Things collection.”

A second drop of shoes is set to arrive on July 1. Dubbed the 'OG Pack', the second drop will feature a red, white and blue color scheme, and celebrates 1985 Independence Day, with a year marker on the heel and special firework display sock liner.
