Nordstrom launches resale shop with Olivia Kim
Nordstrom is appealing to conscious consumers with the upcoming launch of a new shopping experience dedicated to 'recommerce.'
Entitled 'See You Tommorrow', the recommerce shop is the company's latest creative projects initiative, and is curated by Olivia Kim, Nordstrom's vice president of creative projects.
At first launch, the resale shop will feature an edited, authenticated assortment of men's and women's apparel, childrenswear, shoes, accessories, jewelry and watches pulled from the Nordstrom Quality Center (NQC) -- the facility that receives and processes returned and damaged merchandise from Nordstrom's full-price channels, the company said.
Featuring a variety of brands, the pieces will be cleaned, repaired and refurbished before arriving at the recommerce shop.
Set to launch on January 31, 'See You Tomorrow' will be accessible via both an online resale site and an in-store shopping experience at Nordstrom's flagship store in New York City. Throughout its duration, the shop will feature a variety of special brand partnerships, starting with Copenhagen-based contemporary brand, Ganni.
In addition to shopping, consumers can also donate items through a customer intake program in the NYC flagship, in exchange for Nordstrom gift cards that can be used at Nordstrom, nordstrom.com, Nordstrom Rack, nordstromrack.com, HauteLook and Trunk Club. Nordstrom said it plans to launch an online intake program where customers can also mail in merchandise in the near future.
"We want to provide a unique and elevated resale shopping experience that encourages a sense of discovery and provides access to the brands our customers know and love, while giving them a convenient opportunity to participate in the circular fashion economy," said Kim.
"We want our customers to feel good not only about what they're buying, but how they're buying it."
The back end of the shop is powered by Yerdle, a California-based company that builds and operates resale programs for brands that have included Patagonia, REI and Eileen Fisher. Certain luxury items will be authenticated by Entrupy, a tech company dedicated to the authentication of luxury items.
The store marks Nordstrom's latest ethical consumption initiative, following previous efforts including the launch of a 'Sustainable Style' category on its official website in 2019.
