Nordstrom launches text-shopping service

Nordstrom on Tuesday launched TextStyle, its latest initiative that integrates fashion and technology, at all of its 116 U.S. Nordstrom stores. It is a fast and secure way for customers to shop Nordstrom with personal stylists and sales people through text messaging.

"TextStyle is an important step forward in our continued efforts to develop ways to serve customers on their terms," said Jamie Nordstrom, president of stores.

Through TextStyle, users send private text messages with a photo or description of a product. When the customer is ready to buy they simply reply with "buy" and a unique code. The transaction is completed through the customer’s Nordstrom.com account information, and purchases are shipped directly to the customer for free.

The app is a more secure version of phone communication that personal shoppers and clients usually partake in. Another version of this TextStyle service is the PS Dept. app that launched in 2011. The app has been used by salespeople in Barneys New York, Rag & Bone, Kirna Zabête, and has seen much success with Bergdorf Goodman.
