Luxury eyewear brand, Oliver Peoples, is eyeing the other side of the border with the opening of its first Canadian store scheduled for Friday, September 28.

The brand, founded by L.A. eyewear giant Larry Leigh, will debut a 743-square-foot store at Toronto Yorkdale Centre, along with a new retail design specific for the brands expansion into Canada.

Oliver Peoples isn’t stopping there though, with a second store scheduled to open in Vancouver the following month.

“We’re thrilled to be entering the Canadian market and to announce our newest retail boutiques in Toronto and Vancouver,” said Rocco Basilico CEO of Oliver Peoples.

“Strategically within one month of each other, we plan to offer the highest level of luxury eyewear and customer service to both the East and Western portions of Canada. Oliver Peoples is proud to join the exclusive network of the world’s top fashion retailers that reside in the centre and be a part of the premier shopping experience they’ve created.”

The new retail design was inspired by Canada’s lush landscape, while staying true to the company’s roots with European design elements like contrasting brass detailing, Terrazzo marble flooring, Zanuso armchairs, and vintage Stilnovo lighting fixtures.

“The Oliver Peoples Toronto boutique combines our iconic Mid-Century California aesthetic with local influences,” explained Giampiero Tagliaferri, Creative Director of Oliver Peoples.

“Toronto is a major metropolitan city, but at the same time it’s surrounded by vast greenery. When designing the boutique, I wanted to represent this fusing of environments by incorporating accent walls of suede sage, 60’s ribbed walnut wood, and Verde Alpi marble.”

The boutique will carry a large array of sunglasses and optical for men and women, including its current Resort 2019 collection.

For the occasion, the boutique will also launch a limited edition OP-40 30th in tortoise acetate with vibrant green lenses-inspired by the boutiques interior design.

Founded in 1987, Oliver Peoples opened its first store in West Hollywood and today operates 35 retail locations in New York City, London, Los Angeles, Tokyo, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, and Boston, among others.
