On Thursday, French children's and maternity wear specialist Orchestra-Prémaman reported a 2.7% revenue rise in the first half of its non-standard fiscal year, driven by a strong performance in the childcare business.

The revenue for both the Orchestra and Prémaman brands is growing - Orchestra

As stated in a press release, from 1st March to 31st August 2017, Orchestra-Prémaman generated a consolidated revenue of €304.3 million.

The growth was due to "a rise in the number of active retail outlets for the Orchestra brand, whether subsidiaries or concessions/ franchisees (an extra 17,000 m2 were created in six months), and to the significant increase - 13.9% overall - posted by the childcare business in France and abroad, corresponding to a revenue of €61 million," wrote the group.

Childcare now accounts for over 20% of the group's global business (compared to 18% in the first six months of the 2016 fiscal year). In the same period, the Prémaman brand grew by 23.7% and generated a revenue of €18.4 million.

In the second quarter, between 1st June and 31st August, the group produced a consolidated revenue of €150.5 million, up 0.8% compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year.

"This performance mirrors the group's intention of placing the emphasis on profitability, especially by limiting its discount activity during the promotional sales period," wrote the group.

According to the same source, the pushing back of France's return-to-school dates in 2017 compared to 2016 has also negatively affected the period's revenue, at the end of August in particular, generating a significant overspill into September.
