Canadian outdoor retailer Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) is Canada’s most trusted retailer, according to the 2016 Gustavson Brand Trust Index (GBTI).
The GBTI measures Canadian consumers' opinions about 276 corporate and product brands across 27 categories. For this year’s evaluation, it collected responses from 6384 Canadian consumers.
The brand trust survey measures trustworthiness based on five factors: Brand trust, Values-based trust, Functional trust, Relationship trust and Net Recommendations.
MEC tied with President’s choice at the number 1 spot for most trusted brand.
Other retailers included Roots Canada which ranked 41 on the 2016 brand trust rank as well as the Hudson’s Bay at number 66, SportCheck at number 119 and Winners at number 192.
Among personal and beauty care brands, Estee Lauder ranked 83, while L’oreal ranked 154 among others.
Columbia Sportswear took the number one spot in the sportwear category and ranked ninth in total. Canadian sportswear brand Lululemon Athletica also came in at number 212.
The GBTI comes from The Peter B. Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria. This is the second annual GBTI.
