Pantone launches new app

Published
Aug 3, 2016

The colour agency has launched its biggest foray into digital technology to date. Drawing on Pantone's library of more than 10,000 colours, Pantone Studio is an app that allows designers to upload photos to create and customise palettes and mood boards.

Pantone Studio app allows users to experiment for colour and texture on their mobile - Pantone

App users are encouraged to play around with colours and palettes. Once a colour is selected, users can select different settings and textures -- such as 3-D papers and fabrics -- and can add in typography. From here, designers can send the image to the Adobe Creative Cloud from within the app or share it on social media.

The app also includes colour trend forecasting, Pantone's first forecasting service offered digitally.

Pantone Studio app was created in conjunction with 2000 designers, under the helm of full-service digital agency Rokkan.

"Fifty-three years ago, Pantone was introduced as a standardised language to communicate specific colours in the print market,” said SVP and General Manager, Ron Potesky.

“Today, Pantone has become iconic and indispensable as the de facto language of color in all design disciplines, as well as a source of color intelligence and inspiration. Recognising the needs and opportunities for designers today, we created Pantone Studio to provide them their own private color studio – a place where they can explore, capture, create and share color inspiration with friends and colleagues.”

The app is free for basic use and sharing. Users can subscribe to all features through a monthly $7.99 subscription, or $59.99 annually.

It’s available now on the Apple iPhone, with plans for the iPad, Android, Windows and MAC OS to follow.
