LVMH’s Patou announced on Tuesday the launch of a new digital verification technology.

Dubbed 'Authentique Verify' and created in partnership with The Ordre Group, the technology creates unique digital fingerprints of physical luxury products using a smartphone. With the Authentique Verify application, consumers can simply scan the area of the digital fingerprint with their phone to verify that their bag is an original.

Likewise, the technology will create unique digital IDs for products that, on proof of purchase, can be transferred to a customer's phone to establish digital ownership. Authentique's digital IDs also offer extensive product specifications and sustainability information, warranty information as well as styling videos.

The technology makes its debut via Patou's bag collaboration with DI and stylist Sita Abellan. The collection features two unique styles crafted from premium deadstock leather and denim effect organic cotton, and will both be protected by Authentique.

"The industry has been searching for a simple way for consumers to confirm they have purchased an original product and we believe we have found it in Authetique's innovative application,” said Sophie Brocart, CEO Patou. “Counterfeit products are a huge concern for our industry and now consumer confidence can be assured as easily as scanning a Patou product with a smartphone.”

Founded in 2014, The Order Group is the leading fashion technology firm powering the fashion metaverse. The company develops fashion technologies redefining relationships between luxury brands, retailers, and consumers.

“Authentique's unique digital fingerprint and visual recognition technologies require no QR code, RFID or NFC chip to be embedded or attached to the product,” added Simon P Lock, founder and CEO, The Ordre Group.

“This non-invasive technology means there is no interference with the supply chain other than a product image captured on a smartphone. The digital fingerprint, like DNA, can never be removed, unlike a physical connector that is attached to a product. Our Al algorithm tracks the wear of the digital fingerprint over time so the customer can be assured of protection forever."
