Pitti Filati 92 returns to Florence with numbers close to its pre-pandemic level

Pitti Filati, the event for leading Italian and international spinners, is back at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence from January 25 to 27. 105 companies will present their spring-summer 2024 novelties, including 13 from abroad (Japan, UK, China, Germany, Romania, Peru, Turkey). The numbers are close to pre-pandemic levels.

Pitti Filati 92 is returning to Florence from January 25 to 27

"In a moment still characterized by uncertainty and a great desire for recovery, two contrasting and opposing forces seem to always regulate the dynamics of the coming season: caution and optimism, red and green, stop and go.  Pitti Immagine would like to do things its own way: having fun and being enjoyed, giving precise directions while leaving things open to interpretation, triggering off a light, yet effective and graphic game, where the arrival is simply the next starting point.  In this context and in the context of the activities for the coming season that will see the Pitti Immagine shows develop the theme of orientation and direction, Alphabet, the new theme of the Spazio Ricerca - curated as at every edition by Angelo Figus and Nicola Miller - interprets one specific aspect: that which is put onto paper. Writing is the way in which we orient ourselves in space; paper, the virtual and real space of our project, but also of our development, growth, learning, understanding, exchange, and communication."

Amongst the special projects of the event, the D-house urban laboratory presents, as part of the "Fashion at Work" section, in collaboration with The Woolmark Company and Suedwolle, the project "Knitting the future: exploring new areas", which aims to investigate the application of wool and knitwear in different sectors through artefacts made with the innovative Icevit yarn (composed of merino wool and Expotex's Grilon polyamide yarn) thanks to D-house technologies. The artefacts will be created by the two designers Vittorio Brachizio, founder of the Italian knitwear brand of the same name, and Giulia Ber Tacchini, founder of Maissa, a brand based on high quality Italian craftsmanship combined with 3D printing technology.

The Woolmark Company will also be the protagonist, together with Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, of a space on the ground floor of the Central Pavilion, where the innovative technical uniforms that the Italian national team will wear during training for the 37th America's Cup will be presented.

The lower floor of the Central Pavilion will host the fourth edition of the CustomEasy project, under the creative direction of Maurizio Brocchetto and with an installation by Alessandro Moradei, where companies will have the opportunity to present their customisation work applied to the world of luxury knitwear.

The competition dedicated to new international knitwear talent (young designers or students aged between 22 and 35), promoted by Feel the Yarn, which is now in its 14th edition, is also back at Pitti Filati. This season's theme will be "Feel the People" and the winner will have the chance to create a capsule collection for the 2024-25 season with the collaboration of Feel the Yarn mills and with advice and distribution provided by Camera Showroom di Milano.

As regards the sector's trend in 2022, preliminary data from the Confindustria Moda Study Centre for SMI show for wool yarns (which account for over 81% of total turnover), linen and cotton yarns an increase in overall turnover of 27.8%, to 3.32 billion euros. The value of production should increase by +28.2% and exports by +22.5%.
