Prada Mode club to stage Paris session during Haute Couture Week
The Prada Mode club will stage a two-day session in Paris at the start of the Haute Couture Week, on January 19 and 20 2020, hosted at 3 rue Royale by legendary Belle Époque restaurant Maxim’s. It will be the opportunity for the VIP members of the Italian luxury label’s exclusive club to enjoy a unique, immersive experience in art, culture and fine dining.
Prada Mode, an itinerant private club dedicated to contemporary culture, staging art events, musical performances, debates and gastronomic sessions, was first introduced by the Italian label in December 2018 during the Art Basel Miami contemporary art fair. The club then held sessions in Hong Kong and London, and opted for Paris for its fourth edition, hosted by Maxim’s, one of the French capital’s iconic, historic venues, an Art nouveau showcase which over the years has been patronised by celebrities and intellectuals alike.
For the occasion, Maxim’s will undergo a make-over curated by Australian researcher and AI specialist Kate Crawford, and US artist and geographer Trevor Paglen. In a press release, Prada indicated that their ‘Making Faces’ installation will consist of various art projects, transforming the restaurant’s interiors to explore the theme of facial recognition and surveillance systems.
The idea is to chart the history of facial recognition techniques from the 19th century to the present, eventually analysing the extensive impact of AI technology. With this project, Prada Mode said it wants to “take a critical position with regards to contemporary surveillance and control systems.” It is a sensitive theme, also impacting the luxury industry's evolution, one that the guests of this very special club will enjoy discussing in a cocktail party atmosphere.
