Puma North America to open new distribution center in Indiana

The North American subsidiary of German sportswear multinational Puma has plans to open a new distribution center in Whitestown, Indiana, according to paperwork filed with Boone County and cited by the Indiana Business Journal.

Puma North America intends to spend at least $40 million on the approximately 635,000-square-foot facility located at 3519 Perry Boulevard, which is expected to employ 90 people.

The company plans to start hiring over the next few months and will pay employees an average of $18 per hour, plus benefits.

The Whitestown Redevelopment Commission accepted the suggestion of the Boone County Economic Development Corp. to abate Puma North America’s taxes for a period of four years, but the request still needs to be approved by Whitestown Town Council. If the deal is approved, the company’s taxes will be abated 100% in the first year, with the abatement decreasing by 25% for each subsequent year.

In January, Puma Group announced that it would be building a new North American HQ in Somerville, Massachusetts, kicking off a growth strategy which will see the company’s global workforce increase 20%. The new headquarters is expected to open in 2021.

Puma North America also recently appointed 11-year Nike veteran John Miller as its new SVP for wholesale.

Puma Group announced its “best ever” quarter in April 2019, reporting $1.47 billion in sales, up 15.3% in constant currencies year over year. Growth was particularly strong in China and the Americas, with the latter posting a 16.3% increase in sales.

The company is expected to begin equipment installation at its new Indiana distribution center in August of this year.
