Pumpkin Spice Hair is the latest fall beauty trend

Pumpkin Spice is taking the beauty industry by storm this fall. Not only is the popular Starbuck's latte making its presence felt in the world's coffee cups, but it has also sparked an autumnal hair trend.

Redhead envy has reached a peak this autumn, with copper highlights and russet undertones fast becoming the season's hottest look. Fashionistas have been taking to Instagram in droves to show off their warm fall color, accompanied by the hashtag #pumpkinspicehair.

Pumpkin Spice Hair tends to be a light auburn shade, lifted by tawny highlights blended in using the balayage technique. According to Laura Estroff, head colorist at Kennaland Salon in Brooklyn, the look is a natural evolution of the previous trend for 'Gingersnap Hair'. "We're seeing that pumpkin spice hair has more copper undertones whereas gingersnap tends to fall under the category of brunette with red undertones," she told Cosmopolitan.com, which first picked up on the trend.

There appear to be a few ground rules when it comes to getting Pumpkin Spice Hair right. Firstly, this is a look that lends itself to longer hair, so the length should reach at least the shoulders, as demonstrated by a post by hair brand Wella. Layers also look fantastic, as the strawberry blonde or ginger highlights will create depth and texture. And last but not least, big, loose, cascading waves are the way to really show off this color to its full potential.

Red hair, which has always been covetable, is having a moment right now, following on from the 'bronde' trend (a look somewhere between blonde and brunette) that peaked over the summer. Stars including Jessica Chastain, Emma Stone and Bella Thorne regularly fly the auburn flag in Hollywood, while Ashley Tisdale and Sienna Miller have also been part of the redhead brigade recently.
