Nov 22, 2019
Vancouver-based athletic brand RYU Apparel Inc. (Respect Your Universe) is teaming up with Nylstar to improve its entire supply chain, in a bid to increase sustainability in its production circle.
As part of the partnership, the Spanish-based company will provide quality nylon yarns, which has promoted a new sustainability standard under the Nateo label - the basis of RYU's sustainability programs.
"Sustainability is a big topic in the media and we need to do our best to make our industry as sustainable as possible,” said Marcello Leone, CEO of RYU, in a news statement.
“Joining our forces with this new partner and having access to the Meryl yarn is a big step forward for RYU and we look forward to the results we can achieve, not only for ourselves but also for our entire industry, always keeping an eye on the quality RYU is known for."
The partnership with Nylstar will offer RYU the opportunity to improve the quality of its products, optimize its entire supply chain, and design recyclable garments under Nateo programs that will keep the company at the forefront of the industry.
"The total trust from the brand is essential to be able to intervene radically in the collections. I am convinced that together with RYU we will be able to turn it into a disruptive brand that really thinks like the Tesla of fashion," added Alfonso Cirera, president of Nylstar.
For the full year ended December 31, 2018, RYU saw a 67 percent increase in revenue.
Relaunched in November 2015, the company has been in expansion mode across North America since.
RYU opened it first U.S. retail store location in August 2018, and now has three stores in the U.S., spread between New York City and southern California, as well as six locations throughout Canada, including four in Vancouver, and two in Toronto.
