Rebag launches digital handbag appraisal tool
Luxury handbag reseller Rebag has launched a new tool designed to instantly appraise handbags for resale.
Dubbed 'Clair by Rebag,' after the acronym for 'Comprehensive Luxury Appraisal Index for Resale,' the tool is available from October 24 through Rebag’s mobile app and on its website.
Built over the course of five years, Clair is a proprietary software that can determine the value of handbags from a list of more than 50 brands and 10,000 bags. According to Rebag, those who use the tool can obtain an exact and fully automated price that Rebag is currently willing to pay for the item.
In order to use the tool, consumers must follow a three step process: open the tool through Rebag’s website or app, navigate to the Clair portal to select the handbag’s brand, model, style, and size, then tell Clair additional information about the bag’s color and condition. Once these steps are completed, the tool will instantly generate the handbag’s resale value.
In order to create a framework for its pricing process, Rebag said it created an appraisal index as well as universal codes and condition grades to serve as a common pricing reference for resellers worldwide.
“With more and more consumers contemplating the resale value of their luxury purchases, we’ve created a taxonomy that provides a more transparent way for consumers to shop more wisely,” said Charles Gorra, founder and chief executive officer of Rebag. “We’ve spent years gathering data and analyzing the luxury handbag market. Clair is our way of sharing that knowledge with the world - and it’s only the beginning.”
The Clair launch comes as Rebag continues to expand its business, after raising $25 million in fresh capital in February of this year. Launched in 2014, the company currently operates brick-and-mortar stores in New York, Florida and California.
