Reebok to pay CrossFit in licensing royalties dispute

Published
Aug 29, 2018

Reebok and CrossFit on Tuesday announced the settlement of all litigation related to their licensing agreement, which sees the sportswear maker part ways with an undisclosed sum, considered as money owed to the gym chain.

The Boston-headquartered Reebok has agreed to a settlement that includes a payment to CrossFit for "disputed royalties."

Details of the settlement remain confidential, however, according to the Scotts Valley, California-based CrossFit, which went on to assure that every partnership faces challenges from time to time and both parties learn to move on.

"Great partnerships learn from [challenges], overcome them, and become stronger in the resolution of them," said Jeff Cain, Chief Executive Officer at CrossFit.

"Our shared resolution is a victory for CrossFit trainers, affiliates, and athletes."

First linking up in 2010, CrossFit and Reebok have entered into a ten-year licensing and sponsorship agreement, which sees Reebok as the title sponsor of the CrossFit Games and gives the U.S. sportswear brand a license to sell fitness apparel and footwear products bearing the CrossFit trademark.

Rebook responded to the pay out, saying it looked forward to continuing its partnership with the gym phenomenon.

"Our brands are stronger together in the resolution of this dispute, which means great things on the horizon for the CrossFit community," said Reebok President Matt O'Toole.

Neither Crossfit nor Reeok disclosed if the pair would continue in partnership beyond 2020, when the current agreement ends.
