REI appoints two members to board of directors

Specialty outdoor retailer REI Co-op has appointed two of its members Dr. Michael McAfee and Jim Murren to the co-op’s board of directors.

“I’m incredibly pleased to have both Jim and Michael joining our board,” said Eric Artz, CEO REI Co-op. “They bring innovative, progressive perspectives and diverse experiences that will help guide the co-op's growth to 50 million members in line with our racial equity, diversity and inclusion, and climate goals.”

Dr. McAfee is president and CEO of PolicyLink Inc., the foremost national research and advocacy institute advancing economic and social equity. Prior to that, he served as a senior community planning and development representative at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

McAfee is recognized as a thought-leader in the area of corporate racial equity. He is currently developing the first comprehensive tool to support private companies in assessing and actively promoting equity through their business.

Likewise, Murren is the former chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International, who is known as a pioneer in the area of corporate responsibility and diversity. He currently serves on numerous boards, including that of Howard University.

The Seattle-headquartered REI Co-op is a growing community of 21.5 million members. It operates 177 locations in 41 states and the District of Columbia.
