Rei to open ninth Colorado store in Dillon this spring
Outdoor retailer Rei is set to open a new store in Dillon, Colorado in spring 2017. The 25,000-square-foot store will be the ninth co-op store to open in Colorado.
Rei Dillon will carry gear and apparel for skiing, snowboarding, hiking and biking activities, and it will house a ski and snowboard shop that will offer maintenance and repairs from highly trained experts. The new store is expected to service over 365,000 co-op members in the Denver area and thousands of Summit County visitors through host presentations by authors and athletes and the Rei Outdoor School that will offer educational programs on hiking, climbing, biking, backpacking, snowsports and more.
The Seattle-based outdoor retailer opened its first store in Colorado in 1983 in Denver. Rei later opened stores in Lakewood, Boulder, Englewood, Westminster, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, and Grand Junction.
"REI has been a part of this community for decades, with more than 8,000 members residing in the area. With this new location we'll be surrounded by some of the country's most iconic outdoor places and adventurers will more easily be able to get the best gear and expert advice to explore them. Summit County is a special area in that outdoor recreation really fuels the local economy, so we're looking forward to continuing to partner with local nonprofits and our outdoor peers to get more people outside," said Julie Lochner, REI retail director for the Mountain district.
In addition to the Dillon store announcement, Rei opened its newest distribution center in Goodyear, Arizona. The 400,000-square-foot center achieved LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification, and is the second largest Platinum-certified distribution or warehouse facility in the U.S.
Rei currently operates 149 stores in 36 states.
